Weekly website woes ep2 – Suja Organic

Each week we feature one international website, whether overall good or bad, and pick 3 things they could improve about the site (in no particular order). In 2015 Suja Juice was rated as one of Forbes most promising companies. Where have they got to now, particularly with their website? While overall it’s a good looking site and fairly easy to use, there is still room for improvement. Here goes our 3 suggested improvements for the desktop website (based on the site as it was on 14 March 2025 at 1pm GMT+13).

Issue 1: Clutter

The all important homepage hero area is busy, very busy. On a mid-sized screen resolution there is text on top of an image, which has its own text. Further, the arrows for the slides overlap the key call to action ‘Shop Now’ button. The menu uses small text and is largely lost. This hero area needs some work, in particular rearranging and thought on what is most important.

Issue 2: Site speed

The page speed on this site is really not great. It’s 31 (out of 100) for mobile and 32 for desktop, as rated by Google’s PageSpeed Insights. Page speed matters for not only UX (people’s experience of the website), but also for SEO (Google and other search engine rankings). There’s a lot of streamlining of the site’s JS and general DOM that need to happen. This raises the question, is Shopify still the best platform for this site?

Issue 3: Messy design elements

While overall I’m really feeling this design, there are some elements that let it down. Case in point is the top of the footer on the homepage. The wavey top is a nice touch, but would look better fully overlapping the bottom of the section above. With some finishing touches, this site could go to the next level!

That’s the full press, for now

That’s all we are going to cover today. In a future episode we’ll look at the mobile version of the site and the purchasing experience.

Can your website agency own your website? What every business should know.

We’ve lost count of the number of business owners who’ve come to us saying “I thought I owned my website… until I realised I didn’t.” It usually starts small - you can’t log in to make a quick change, or you have to email your agency for every little update. Then you find out your domain is registered in their name, not yours. Before you know it, your own website is effectively behind bars, and the only way to get to it is through them.

What Does SEO Cost in New Zealand?

If you’ve ever Googled “how much does SEO cost?”, you’ll know it’s a bit like asking “how long is a piece of string?”. The answer depends on what you need, how competitive your industry is, and how much work has already been done on your website. SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is the process of helping your website appear higher in Google searches. It’s what helps people find your business online, without you paying for ads every time someone clicks. In short, it’s about making your website more visible, more useful, and more trusted in Google’s eyes. That means better traffic, better leads and more business for you.
