5 Website Features Every Kiwi Business Must Have in 2025

If your business is online (and it should be!), your website needs to do more than just look good. It needs to work hard, pulling its weight as a digital salesperson, a first impression maker, and a customer service assistant, all rolled into one.

Here are 5 non-negotiables for New Zealand businesses in 2025:

1. Mobile Responsiveness – Or You’ll Lose People, Fast

More than 70% of Kiwis are browsing websites on their phones. If your website doesn’t look good or function properly on mobile, they’ll bounce – and fast.

A mobile-responsive site adjusts to any screen size, offering a seamless experience on desktop, tablet, or mobile. This isn’t just about convenience, Google also prioritises mobile-friendly websites in search results.

Bonus: Test your site on your phone. Is it fast, clean, and easy to use?

2. SEO Basics – So People Can Actually Find You

If Google can’t find your website, your customers won’t either. Search engine optimisation (SEO) is how you make sure your website shows up when someone searches for your service.

Basic SEO should include:

● Keyword rich titles and page content

● Meta descriptions that match your services

● Image tags and proper heading structure (H1, H2 etc.)

● Fast loading speed

● Secure (HTTPS) hosting

● An optimised Google My Business Profile

Even getting the foundations right makes a massive difference in visibility, and traffic. Need some help with this? Give us a shout!

3. Clear and Easy Contact Options

If someone wants to get in touch, don’t make them hunt around for your phone number or email. A dedicated contact page, clear call-to-action buttons and/or a simple contact form should be easy to find on every page.

Some websites can also benefit from a chat widget or enquiry pop-up (if done politely) to prompt action.

Tip: Make your contact options visible on both desktop and mobile, ideally in the header and footer.

4. Trust Indicators, Because Trust Sells

People are cautious online. Adding a few simple trust elements can go a long way:

● Google reviews or testimonials

● Logos of businesses you’ve worked with

● Security badges or payment protection (for e-commerce)

● Clear privacy and refund policies

It’s all about giving people a reason to feel confident choosing you.

5. Clear, Customer-Focused Messaging

Your homepage (and every other page) needs to speak directly to your ideal customer. Not about how great you are, but how you solve their problem.

People should instantly understand:

● What you do

● Who it’s for

● What they need to do next (your Call To Action)

Cut the fluff. Use real, relatable language. Add strong calls to action. And make sure your design supports the message, not buries it.
